Mishimoto 2017+ Honda Civic Type R Intercooler Kit – Silver Intercooler Red Piping

It’s no easy feat to be dubbed as one of the fastest front-wheel-drive productions cars in the world. Honda put all of their engineering prowess behind this achievement, but since the 2017-2021 Honda Civic Type R finds itself in the gray area of track fiend and commuter car, some sacrifices had to be made. One of those sacrifices comes in the form of the underperforming intercooling system that the FK8 is born with. Under intense driving conditions, or just being caught in a sweltering summer day, the stock tube-and-fin intercooler soaks with heat, quelling the performance of your CTR. We here at Mishimoto aim to put that power back into your hot-Honda by keeping it cool with the Mishimoto 2017-2021 Honda Civic Type R Performance Intercooler Kit. We started by increasing the overall size of the core two more than double that of the stock dimensions. The 4.7 inch thick core boasts a 169-percent increase in overall volume, and bumps the external fin surface area by 189-percent for optimal heat rejection properties. We didn’t stop with the size increase either. To keep the charged air flowing properly through the larger core, we updated to a bar-and-plate core construction. The robust design offers not only improved flow characteristics, but also aides in transferring heat away from the charged air. The plastic end tanks are a thing of the past, and have been replaced with our sleek cast aluminum designs to more effectively direct airflow to and from the piping. With the Mishimoto Performance Intercooler Kit, the Intercooler isn’t the only component that received an update, and we took the liberty of overhauling the entire intercooling system. Honda carried some of those sacrifices in the name of mass production over to the intercooler piping as well. The restrictive piping diameters limit the K20C1?s potential to turn up the boost with tunes, and the rubber sections are destined to deteriorate down the line.     The BMW F10 M5 power and handling statistics are completely mind-blowing for a car tipping the scales at over two tons. The S63 twin-turbo V8 is underrated from the factory and responds well to tuning and bolt on modifications. Calling it the ultimate super sedan would not do this car justice. Heavy, high horsepower vehicles are also very good at generating heat. This added heat often affects the engine cooling, charge air cooling, or oil cooling systems. Since we already tackled the oil cooling system with our F10 M5 performance oil cooler, it was time to turn our attention towards the liquid-to-air intercooler system.—-Our engineering team designed intercooler and pipe kit that offers increased volume, improved cooling efficiency, and superior airflow compared to the factory coolers. We started by increasing core volume by 37-percent compared to the stock coolers. Using our extensive knowledge of heat transfer, our team designed an extremely efficient bar-and-plate core which provides optimal cooling and a 10-percent reduction in airflow restriction. During our in-depth testing, we recorded 24-degree drops in intake temperatures and power gains of 25 WHP/22 WTQ on our stage-1-tuned M5. The Mishimoto 2015-2020 BMW F8X M3/M4 Performance Intercooler Power Pack looks at strengthening the weaknesses in BMW’s design starting with the charge pipes. It’s a common problem with the factory plastic charge pipes to crack under pressure, or split at the seams, a less than ideal situation as you pilot your M3 or M4 in any situation. We created a brand-new design for the charge pipes that inspire more confidence in handling the boost pressure. Our design features a full aluminum construction, with a cast mid-section designed specifically to squeeze past the intake. Our charge pipe kit also includes a pair of matte black silicone couplers for a sleek and secure connection to the intercooler.

Our improved core design features a bar-and-plate core with a 29% increase in core volume, as well as a unique single-pass coolant flow layout for optimal heat transfer. Combined with our 16% increase in flow through the core we were able to record a 12°F temperature drop in intake air temperatures while testing our full Power Pack. An air-to-water intercooling system wouldn’t be complete without the heat exchanger. When it came to BMW’s design, it was a solid foundation, but we still saw room to grow, literally. Our full aluminum design added 6″ to the height of the core equating in a 180% increase in external fin surface area, and a 60% increase in core volume. With our heat exchanger in the S55’s system we recorded a 10 degree F drop in global intercooler coolant temperatures, and an average gain of 11 whp and 8 wtq when the full Mishimoto 2015-2020 BMW F8X Performance Intercooler Power Pack was tested on our stage 1 tuned M3. For added security, we made sure to include our optional steel mesh stone guard with the Mishimoto Performance Heat exchanger to keep all of the tubes and fins intact. We also utilized a variable fin pitch on our heat exchanger’s core for optimal cooling on DCT equipped vehicles. Where the F8X generation of the M3, M4 and M2 Competition were designed to pull ahead of the rest, there were still somethings that were left to be desired in terms on intercooling.
