TTE420 TFSI 5051 VAG UPGRADE TURBOCHARGER
The TTE420 starts life as a brand-new BorgWarner K04-064 turbocharger, meticulously dismantled and re-engineered to create the ultimate K04 frame hybrid for the EA888.1 engine. Designed as a high-performance power stage for the 2.0 TSI range, the TTE420 delivers significant gains while maintaining near-OE fitment and drivability.
Engineered & Enhanced
At the heart of the TTE420 is the TTE 2871X billet compressor wheel. This next-generation, high-efficiency design features ultra-thin blades that provide exceptional airflow for its size, resulting in a wide compressor map and superior performance. The re-profiled compressor cover is machined to precise tolerances for maximum efficiency. The original PCV port is removed, replaced with a TTE smooth-flow billet blanking plate, while the CNC-ported and hand-finished intake ensures a seamless air path for optimized flow. The boost outlet is carefully modified and welded to the correct position for ideal airflow.

CNC Billet TTE Recirculation Valve Adapter – allows installation of the OE VAG recirculation valve, providing OE-like fitment and reliable operation.
Power gains are further maximized by fitting a larger BorgWarner K16 curved, clipped turbine and shaft, while retaining the K04 core. This upgrade reduces backpressure and lowers exhaust gas temperatures (EGT) compared to the stock K04 turbine, allowing higher, safer boost levels. The clipped K16 turbine also reduces rotational mass, improving moment of inertia and maintaining response, with dyno results showing minimal loss in spool yet significant increases in torque and power.
A TTE-developed, in-house 360° high-performance motorsport journal bearing system is fitted for exceptional durability under high loads without compromising transient response. The turbo also features an uprated OE actuator with reinforced clamps for consistent, trouble-free operation.
Precision & Balance
Longevity and performance are critical for every TTE upgrade. Each turbocharger undergoes meticulous balancing:

Component balancing – performed up to 2,800 RPM in multiple planes using a single-part balancing machine.

CHRA dynamic balancing – performed at up to 250,000 RPM in multiple planes using our in-house VSR machine, exceeding OEM standards.
Every TTE420 is supplied with a serial-numbered balance test report, ensuring ultimate equilibrium, reliability, and acoustic refinement.
