Skunk2’s all-aluminum, half-size Alpha Series Radiator for the 88-’91 Civic/CRX is a direct-fit upgrade designed to dramatically increase both cooling efficiency and engine performance. Alpha Series Radiators are manufactured from lightweight and durable aluminum, feature 100-percent brazed cores, and include polished end tanks with Skunk2’s signature Alpha logo embossed along each side. Each Alpha Series Radiator features a dual-core design, high-efficiency fins for maximum cooling capabilities, and includes a genuine Skunk2 Radiator Cap for maximum performance and a premium appearance. Each Alpha Series Radiator also includes provisions for the OEM cooling fan and larger 1.25- in. inlets and outlets, which makes it ideal for most engine swaps that utilize larger radiator hoses

Alpha Series Rods are forged from select 4340 chromoly steel and feature an H-beam design, resulting in the ultimate strength-to-weight ratio. 4340 chromoly is one of the strongest materials available, however, not all 4340 chromoly is the same. As such, Skunk2 relies on extensive material testing and works closely with its foundry to produce high-quality rods at an affordable price. Comprehensive heat-treating, tempering, and shot-peening processes together ensure that each Alpha Series Rod remains consistent and strong. Finally, each rod is magna-fluxed to ensure integrity and that each process has been completed thoroughly and according to Skunk2’s rigid specifications. Skunk2’s engineers spent nearly three years developing and testing its H-beam rod design. The results are one of the strongest beam configurations available, capable of handling more than 900 hp. Engineers made use of FEA (Finite Element Analysis) to determine high-stress points and implemented features to reduce wear and increase strength. Skunk2’s straight design distributes stress across a larger area when compared to tapered rods, providing additional support where necessary. Alpha Series Rods are manufactured from two-piece forgings, resulting in optimal grain orientation along the rod cap for increased strength. By orienting the metal’s grain in the direction of stress along the rod cap, perpendicular to the stress exerted along the beam, strength is significantly increased. Skunk2’s two-piece forgings provide a precision-tight fit between the rod’s cap and its beam without resorting to the brittle materials required by other processes. Alpha Series Rods also feature dual oil passages at their pin ends, providing additional lubrication and cooling, which leads to an even stronger, more durable rod. Unlike other designs, Skunk2’s carefully positioned, offset oil passages help deliver lubrication around the entire wrist pin, during each phase of the engine cycle.

Skunk2 is proud to introduce its Alpha Valve Spring and Titanium Retainer Kit for Honda’s D-series VTEC engines. Each kit includes Skunk2’s high-quality valve springs and race-proven titanium retainers that are the result of nearly two decades of racing and engine building experience. Manufactured exclusively from super-clean, chrome-silicone wire milled in Japan, Skunk2’s Alpha Valve Springs for Honda’s D-series VTEC engines are a product of the company’s years of racing and engine building experiences. Alpha Valve Springs are able to prevent valve float and maintain valvetrain stability at engine speeds in excess of 10,000 rpm. Skunk2’s industry-leading Alpha Titanium Retainers are designed to significantly reduce valvetrain mass, resulting in more horsepower and improved valvetrain stability. Similar to Skunk2’s already popular Pro Series Titanium Retainers, Alpha Titanium Retainers feature radius-cut edges for additional rocker arm clearance and reduced weight, strategically positioned lightening grooves, and reduced overall heights for better valve seal clearance and even further weight reduction. Alpha Titanium Retainers are manufactured using the latest 3D CAD (Computer Aided Design) and FEA (Finite Element Analysis) to ensure that each is optimized for strength as well as for reduced weight. Skunk2 engineers then test and prove their designs on the engine dyno as well as the race track. Once approved for manufacturing, only medical-grade titanium that’s been ultrasonically inspected and certified is used. Following CNC machining, each retainer is then individually inspected to ensure proper hole diameter, taper, and that each are free from machining defects to ensure proper installed valve spring heights and pressures.

Skunk2 Alpha Series valves are manufactured from HNV3 martensitic steel (IN) and EV8 austenitic steel (EX) one-piece forgings, each valve is heat-treated using a proprietary process for extraordinary strength and durability. Alpha Series Valves feature hard chrome plating and fully machined valve heads. Other valves may appear similar, but only Alpha Series Valves feature specially designed valve head profiles to optimize airflow. Skunk2 designs, develops, and tests its entire valvetrain lineup in-house to ensure superior quality and maximum performance gains. During development, each valvetrain component is tested both on the dyno and the road. Manufactured from the best materials available in a state-of-the-art manufacturing environment ensure that Skunk2 valvetrain components provide exceptional performance, reliability, and quality.
