    The direct-injected and turbocharged 2.0L Hurricane engine found in the 2018-2023 Jeep Wrangler JL is the most advanced engine ever fitted to a Wrangler. But, despite all the high-tech features that make the Hurricane great, It’s still vulnerable to a very low-tech problem: blow-by. The fuel efficiency and increased power of direct injection comes with the threat of carbon buildup. As fuel and air get squeezed in the cylinder, some of the mixture leaks past the piston rings and carries oil from the cylinder walls with it. This mixture is known as blow-by. To prevent crankcase pressure from building up, the blow-by is then vented into the intake to be reburned. Blow-by becomes an issue with direct-injected engines when it passes the intake valves. Without fuel spraying over the valve, There’s nothing to wash off the blow-by and heat from combustion eventually causes it to build up as carbon on the back of the intake valves. That carbon buildup prevents valves from closing fully and disrupts airflow. The result is poor running, misfires and, if left long enough, engine damage. The best solution to the problem of blow-by buildup is prevention. Instead of letting blow-by enter the intake, the Mishimoto 2018-2023 Jeep Wrangler JL 2.0L direct-fit baffled oil catch can kit diverts it away from the intake valves and into a 7.5 oz catch can. You can then recycle the contents of the catch can with your next oil change. Our catch can employs a series of air turbulators, a baffle, and 50-micron bronze filter to clean the blow-by of vapors before it returns to your intake. While the Lambda II GDI 3.3T provides one of the best platforms out there today, the intercooling system has the potential to hold the Stinger back. We’ve replaced the entire intercooling system, from turbo to throttle body to provide optimized airflow. The Mishimoto Performance Intercooler replaces the tube and fin core coupled to plastic end tanks with a robust bar and plate core, TIG-welded to cast aluminum end tanks for vastly improved heat dissipation and flow. We also expanded our core for a 94-percent increase in core volume and a 74-percent increase in external fin surface area.We kept the aluminum construction of the stock pipes, but increased the inner diameter to 3in for increased flow through the system with minimal pressure drop. We also made sure to overhaul the piping merger manifold, increasing the inlets to 2in and outlet to 3in for a 51-percent boost in flow straight out of the turbos, while retaining compatibility with the stock recirculation valves. Our piping kit is finished in a sleek micro-wrinkle black powder coat to retain the OEM+ look under the hood and is linked together with our 5-layer silicone couplers.Our intercooler kit isn’t just about a new look but will perform. Once on the dyno, the combination of the larger piping diameters, and increased intercooler size equated to a 29 degree F drop in outlet temperatures with a gain of 8whp and 8wtq on stock tuning. We also made sure to turn up the boost with our testing and installed a stage 1 map tune on our Stinger and recorded a 41 degree F drop in outlet temperature with a 6whp and 8wtq gain on top of the tune.
