The same intercooler cores used in this application are the same style used in other CSF air-to-air systems developed for the Urus/RS Q8/Cayenne Turbo, Audi RS6/RS7, and Porsche 992 Turbo/S, with incredible results. These cores eliminate heat soak and lower Intake Air Temperatures (IATs) much more efficiently than traditional Bar & Plate designs. This gives us maximum performance for extended periods of time under demanding driving conditions and in vehicles with increased power levels through modifications and tuning. The 4.0L twin-turbo V8 in the SQ7/SQ8 starts to experience debilitating heat soak and progressively increasing IATs with the OEM intercoolers. This results in the ECU pulling engine timing and drastically decreasing power output. The CSF by PWR Intercoolers solve this issue and allow vehicles to perform at optimal levels consistently and for prolonged periods of time.

The most important feature of the CSF by PWR 992 Turbo/S Intercooler System is the Formula-1 grade intercooler cores. CSF’s strategic relationship with PWR has allowed the inclusion of these cores, which are unlike any other available in the performance aftermarket. The intercooler cores are spec’d out by CSF and custom built by PWR. Featuring two rows of rolled cooling tubes with inner fins, these cores make for the most efficient intercoolers available. Because of this, they are able to eliminate heat soak and lower IATs much more efficiently than traditional Bar & Plate or Tube & Fin designs. CSF partnered with DYME PSI for their exceptional quality and innovative quick-release hose and fitting solutions. The DYME Pro/Spec Quick Release Fittings offer race-proven performance with the convenience of tool-free clamshell removal and capable of withstanding up to 10,000 PSI. Quick Release fittings make the installation of the CSF kit much faster than traditional threaded fittings. In addition, they make maintenance like fluid changes much less of a headache. The hoses are a Superstrasse CPE lined stainless steel braided rubber hose for maximum flexibility, flow, and chemical resistance. While mounting an additional cooler behind the grill is the simple option, that just adds more heat to the full system and takes away from the cooling capacity of the radiator. On top of that, most owners who track their cars will have an upgraded/larger intercooler which further compounds the issue. That means the sides of the bumper are the obvious and optimal placement. However, the FL5 does not have great airflow in that area. To improve airflow, CSF needed to design a ducting/inlet system that would allow proper airflow for optimal performance.

Testing was performed at World Motorsports in Torrance, CA with the help of Moto IQ . The OEM intercooler was run first to establish a baseline. You can see the OEM intercooler reaches heat soak relatively quickly (about 3 pulls). Performance was fairly impressive for an OEM intercooler, able to drop the charge air temperatures approximately 150ºF. The CSF x Jackson Racing Intercooler just blew the factory system out of the water though. Charge air temperatures were reduced by more than 240ºF. That’s 90ºF more than the OEM intercooler. This resulted in much lower Intake Air Temperatures (IATs) and that were just a few degrees over ambient. On top of that, heat soak took twice as long to set in. Even when heat soaked, the charge air temperatures remained around 60ºF cooler than that of the factory intercooler.

CSF originally designed the BMW S63 Charge-Air-Coolers for the F9X M5/M6. Over five hundred of these Intercooler kits have been sold with many of them on 1000+ hp builds. Due to the popularity and success of these previous kits, it wasn’t long before our dealers and tuning partners got their hands on these new M5s.
