Description
TTE420 TSI 5051 VAG UPGRADE TURBOCHARGER
The TTE420 is developed from a brand-new BorgWarner K04-064 turbocharger, which is completely dismantled and re-engineered to produce a high-performance hybrid unit designed specifically for EA888.1 platforms. Engineered for the 2.0 TSI engine range, it delivers substantial power gains while maintaining near-OEM fitment, drivability, and installation compatibility.
Engineered & Enhanced Performance
The upgrade process begins with the integration of a significantly larger 2871X TTE billet compressor wheel. This next-generation design features ultra-thin blades and highly efficient geometry, enabling exceptional airflow relative to its size and producing a broad, high-efficiency compressor map.
The compressor cover is precision-machined to optimized tolerances for maximum efficiency. The original PCV port is removed and replaced with a TTE smooth-flow billet blanking plate, improving airflow characteristics. Additionally, the intake pipe is CNC-ported and hand-finished, ensuring a seamless air tract for optimal transition and reduced turbulence. The boost outlet is also repositioned and welded for correct alignment.
A CNC-machined billet TTE boost adapter with integrated silencer delete is installed to eliminate restrictions, improving flow while enhancing turbo acoustics. The compressor housing is also CNC-milled to accept a billet TTE recirculation valve adapter, allowing use of the original VAG recirculation valve for OEM-like fitment and reliable operation.
Advanced Turbine System
To effectively drive the larger compressor, the turbo is fitted with a significantly larger curved and clipped BorgWarner K16 turbine and shaft assembly, while retaining the K04 core architecture. This upgrade reduces exhaust back pressure and lowers exhaust gas temperatures compared to the standard or clipped K04 turbine.
The clipping process decreases blade surface area, increasing gas flow and enabling safer operation at higher boost pressures. It also reduces turbine mass, improving rotational inertia and transient response. Dyno testing demonstrates minimal response loss compared to stock, alongside substantial gains in power and torque.
Motorsport-Grade Bearing System
Each unit incorporates a proprietary TTE-developed 360-degree high-performance motorsport journal bearing system. This design provides exceptional durability under high loads without compromising transient response or reliability.
Reinforced Actuation
An uprated sprung OEM actuator is installed and secured with reinforced clamps to ensure consistent boost control and long-term operational stability.
Precision Balancing & Quality Assurance
Balancing is a critical factor in both performance and longevity. Each turbocharger undergoes a meticulous multi-stage balancing process. Individual components are first balanced at low speeds up to 2,800 RPM across multiple planes. After assembly, the CHRA is dynamically balanced at speeds of up to 250,000 RPM using an in-house VSR system. This process achieves balance tolerances exceeding OEM standards.
Every TTE420 turbocharger is supplied with a serialized balance test certificate, confirming its precision calibration and quality control.
