Developed along with leading BMW restoration R&D partner CA Tuned, CSF has been able to incorporate many features into its drop-in fit E30 oil cooler. This makes the new CSF E30 oil cooler not just an option for customers looking for a high-quality OEM replacement for the 25+ year oil cooler, but a performance and fitment upgrade as well. One of the most innovative features of this new m20 engine oil cooler is the included fitment kit allowing users to run -10 AN lines instead of the older OEM style rubber & hardline bent hoses which can be corroded, hard to source, and expensive to purchase. This oil cooler is built to last with a rugged bar/plate design, increased cooling capacity, variable inlet/outlet fittings, along with better dynamic fluid properties. The original oil cooler used Tube and Fin construction. While this is acceptable for cooling performance, it is not a very robust design. CSF chose to go with a Bar and Plate construction to improve durability. While there is plenty of ground clearance, the cooler is low enough to see some potential abuse on the track. CSF wanted to offer that extra durability of a Bar and Plate cooler for track enthusiasts and those running their car on the lower side.
The factory Euro oil cooler was discontinued by BMW so Bimmerworld partnered with CSF to produce a direct replacement and keep this essential E36 oil cooler upgrade alive.

Enter the new CSF S54 Swap Race Spec Oil Cooler. This new oil cooler is shorter on the right hand side allowing owners to run the A/C lines in the OEM path. Even though the #8240 is slightly smaller than the #8032, you can expect similar performance levels as they both feature a dual pass design with 8 cooling rows and are the same turbulated heavy-duty bar/plate construction. Both oil coolers utilize the S54 OEM oil line connections. However, CSF will be offering a fitting kit with -10 AN hookups for customers looking to run custom oil lines. This fitting kit should be available by the second quarter of 2023.

The original OE oil cooler from BMW is an all metal design which would make you think it would be fairly robust. However, there are several weak spots in the design that make it far less durable than it could be. The CSF design resolves these issues with more robust materials and reinforcing weak points. At first glance, the original BMW OE oil cooler appears solid due to its all-metal construction. However, design weaknesses make it far less durable than expected. These precision machined, threaded M30 “Widemouth” fittings are designed with an optimized inner diameter (ID) to dramatically improve oil flow. These fittings deliver up to 50% greater flow capacity compared to OEM connections. The oil coolers can be placed in tighter spaces or different areas of the vehicle that don’t have much vertical surface area. Longer rectangular sizes can also help with avoiding the stacking of too many coolers which may cause airflow issues to other components in the cooling system. Inlet/outlet port placement is much easier to route oil lines. Typical oil cooler lines have to be routed from different/opposite ends of the cooler often facing up or down. Usually one line has to run across from one side of the cooler to the other to then be routed together to the feed/return connection of the oil system. The CSF oil coolers are much more robust, durable, and can withstand a higher peak burst rate. This allows the cooler to be mounted in areas that might get high debris (front fascia, diff cooler, side vents, etc…). The CSF oil cooler is designed to withstand a tremendous amount of vibration and debris.
